In 2008, recognizing a distinct need for a fraternity that could uniquely contribute to the University of North Florida (UNF) campus community, Iota Phi Theta emerged as the answer. Formally organized in the fall of 2008 by Nelson McCoy of Beta Chi, Monwell Benson of the Ball State Colony, and Mike Ranglin of Zeta Kappa, the UNF Colony began its probationary status during a pivotal time for the university. Under Brother McCoy's leadership, the colony was officially founded in April 2010 with the initiation of Hal Gray and Mark Harris.

The year 2011 marked a period of increased visibility for the UNF Colony, participating in various campus events, including stroll-offs, and actively engaging in multiple campus organizations. Greg Berry joined the chapter that fall. The colony also demonstrated a commitment to community service, particularly through the Iota Youth Alliance, known for its positive impact on Jacksonville's youth. This alliance assisted students in navigating high school challenges and preparing for post-high school endeavors, leading to success stories within the Jacksonville Youth Alliance, where some members pursued paths within the Divine Nine.

Spring 2013 welcomed Brian Calhoun to the brotherhood, solidifying the UNF Colony's presence on campus with diverse activities and a commitment to building tradition. The fraternity's impact extended beyond membership, with brothers actively working to enhance the campus environment. Noteworthy achievements included Greg Berry's role as NPHC President in the 2013-2014 school year and Mark Harris serving as the Head Coordinator of the African American Student Union (now BSU).

On August 5, 2014, the UNF Colony, now designated Theta Pi, achieved a significant milestone by being officially recognized as the Theta Pi Chapter. This recognition came after earning the highest GPA among NPHC fraternities on campus. The chartering process was completed with the addition of Cedric Smith, Greg Baker, and Brendon Cooper in Spring 2014.

Following the chartering, the chapter faced a period of dormancy as all the founding brothers graduated or moved on from college life. However, the story of Theta Pi did not end there. In a remarkable turn of events, Bro. Brandon Jacobs, who had previously relocated to Dallas, TX in 2012, returned with a mission to breathe new life into the chapter. The task at hand was formidable, requiring dedication, resilience, and a passionate commitment to the fraternity's values.

In the spring of 2022, Bro. Jacobs, with the invaluable assistance of the chapter founder Nelson McCoy, initiated a strategic plan to reactivate the chapter. Their efforts bore fruit, with the initiation of Deven Bruner, marking a resurgence of Theta Pi at the University of North Florida. This revival was not merely a symbolic gesture; it was a testament to the enduring spirit of brotherhood and the determination to overcome challenges.

Since the chapter's reactivation, Theta Pi has thrived on various fronts. The fraternity has distinguished itself through exceptional programming that not only reflects the core values of Iota Phi Theta but also addresses the contemporary needs of the UNF community. The chapter's commitment to academic excellence is evident in its outstanding GPA, showcasing a dedication to both personal and collective growth.

Notably, in 2023, Theta Pi expanded its brotherhood with the initiation of two new members, Javin McKnight and Kelvin Hill. This marked a pivotal moment in the chapter's journey, exemplifying its renewed strength and commitment to fostering a sense of belonging and achievement among its members.

The story of Theta Pi is a testament to the resilience of brotherhood, the dedication of its members, and the enduring impact of Iota Phi Theta at the University of North Florida. To learn more about Theta Pi's inspiring journey or to get involved, contact them at unfiotas@gmail.com.
